DeFabbia and Van Dyke Combine for 11 Strikeouts in Stetson's 7-2 Win Over Jacksonville

Hatters Start Conference Play 1-0

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Stetson University baseball team continued their road trip as they began ASUN play with a weekend series against the Jacksonville Dolphins at John Sessions Stadium on Friday night. Backed by solid pitching and a pair of homeruns from Landon Moran and Yohann Dessureault, the Hatters picked up a 7-2 win for their first conference win of the year. Senior southpaw Anthony DeFabbia collected six strikeouts while junior Ty Van Dyke added five more to help lead Stetson over the Dolphins.

In addition to his six strikeouts, DeFabbia earned his fourth win of the season after going six innings, giving up one run on seven hits and walking none for Stetson. Van Dyke's five strikeouts came in addition to his three innings of one-run ball where he allowed one hit while walking one.

Offensively, the Hatters were paced by junior Yohann Dessureault, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a home run and two RBI. Sophomore Landon Moran compiled a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk and an RBI. Freshman Kyle Jones also contributed for Stetson, putting together three hits in four trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

The Hatters got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Moran put Stetson on the board with a leadoff home run to right center, his first of the season.

The Hatters then held the Dolphins scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Stetson picked up two runs, including one on a solo shot off the bat of Dessureault, his seventh of the year, bringing the Hatters lead to 2-0. Jones, who reached on single, would come around to score on a groundout double-play to extend the lead to 3-0.

Stetson held Jacksonville without a run before expanding their lead even further to 6-0 in the fourth inning. The Hatters added three runs on three hits and an error as Mike Handal and Jones each drove in a run on a single.

The Dolphins fought back, closing the gap to 6-1 until Stetson added some insurance in the ninth. The Hatters scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Dessureault, bringing the score to 7-1 in favor of Stetson. Jacksonville put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Hatters still coasted to the 7-2 win.

The Hatters return to action Saturday for game two of the series with first pitch scheduled for 7:00 PM at John Sessions Park in Jacksonville, Fla.
