JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Stetson University baseball team saw contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, but the Hatters fell to the Jacksonville Dolphins 8-6 at John Sessions Stadium on Saturday night. The Hatters are now an even 1-1 in conference play, 13-7 overall, after taking the first game of the series on Friday night.
Junior RHP Dylan Jacobs started on the bump for Stetson but took the loss. Senior Danny Garcia come out of the bullpen and threw three shutout innings, allowing one hit, with no walks and four strikeouts.
At the plate, the Hatters were paced by Lorenzo Meola and Kyle Jones, who racked up three hits and an RBI each. Junior catcher Gio Cueto plated a pair as he has now recorded 22 RBIs on the season. Daniel Labrador kicked off the scoring tonight with a leadoff homerun to straightaway center, his second of the year.
The Hatters got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Stetson's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a one-run single off the bat Cueto.
Stetson lost the lead they built in the second, but got back on the board in the sixth trailing 8-4. Yohann Dessureault came across to score the lone run of the inning for Stetson, which tightened the Dolphins lead to 8-5.
Stetson kept the Dolphins off the board before narrowing the gap to 8-6 in the eighth. The Hatters were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
The Hatters out-hit the Dolphins at a 14-11 clip while going 4-for-11 (.364) with runners in scoring position. Stetson pitchers faced 37 Jacksonville hitters in the game, forcing nine ground balls and five fly balls while striking out seven.
