The Stetson Hatters defeated the Bellarmine Knights 12-4, in six innings, on a windy Sunday afternoon.
Lath Freeman had her four career multi-homerun game and first as a Hatter.
"The last two games were great responses about a game one loss," stated Head Coach
Shellie Cousins. "We are playing Hatter softball and have the confidence that we have been looking for all year. I believe in this team and I will bet on us on any given day!"
In the top of the first inning the Knights hit a three-run homerun to take an early lead. However, in the bottom half of the inning, the Hatters struck back quickly.
Addison Foster both drew walks before
Lath Freeman sent on into the tree past the scoreboard in left center tying the game up at three.
Annabella McClerren continued the parade of Hatters to the box with a single on a chopper to third that she beat out and advanced to second on a throwing error.
Evette Morgan followed suit with a single putting runners on first and third.
Kami Eppley was able to plate McClerren.
Marissa Baxter put runners back on the corners with a single up the middle.
Jaela Haynes continued the hot bats for Stetson as she singled in Morgan. Stetson batted around the entire lineup in the bottom of the first inning as they took a 5-3 lead.
"It feels great having a multi-homerun game," said
Lath Freeman. "It's been a long time since I did it last and I am excited that I could bring that here, today. It was important to answer back in the bottom of the first because Hannah was working really hard. As a hitter we all have jobs to do and we all executed up and down the lineup. We batted through the lineup in the first inning. The Hats are hot!"
Bellarmine cut the Stetson lead down to one in the top of the fifth inning but once again the Hatters responded. Freeman hit her second homerun of the game putting the team back up two runs. McClerren singled again this time to right center and Morgan blasted one over the left field fence making it 8-4.
Marissa Baxter drew a walk and
Haley Fox came in to pinch run for her. Fox stole second and advanced to third on pass ball before
Gia Napoli brought her home on a double.
Hannah Marien worked a 1-2-3 inning bringing the Hatters' hot bats back up again in the bottom of the sixth needing three runs to end the game early. That's exactly what they did.
McClerren tallied her fourth hit of the game giving her a perfect four-for-four day with a double. Morgan then brought her home with a double of her own, on her third hit of the day.
Nadia English pinch ran for Morgan and Eppley brought her home with a single up the middle. Baxter tallied her second hit of the day and Haynes put runners on first and second with a single of her own. With two outs
Addison Foster came up to the plate and her first hit of the game won it for Stetson.
Marien tallied her sixth win of the season going six innings and striking out five. Six different Hatters tallied a multi-hit game with McClerren going a perfect 4-4. Freeman's two homeruns brings her total to three on the season and Morgan's was her first. Freeman and Morgan combined for seven of the twelve RBIs for the Hatters.
Stetson will look to keep sending ball out of Patricia Wilson as they host Florida Atlantic at 6pm on Tuesday, March 26.
