DeLand, Fla.- Stetson Softball fell in 3-2 in extra innings against FAU on Tuesday Night.
After a scoreless first inning, the Owls struck first scoring two in the top of the second on
Lauren Hobbs.
The Hatters answered in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Kami Eppley starting things off by beating out an infield single to third and stole second base.
Jordyn Stanfill was hit by a pitch putting runners on first and second. That brought up
Gia Napoli who sneaked a hit through the right side of the infield plating Eppley. With the lineup turning back over to the top,
Addison Foster smacked one up the middle bringing around Stanfill to tie the game at two.
Both pitchers continued to duel through the seventh inning meaning that it was time for some free softball.
Florida Atlantic was able to score one in the top of the eighth and with the bases loaded
Victoria Ash was brought in to try to get Stetson out of a bases loaded jam. Ash was able to keep the Owls from scoring any more runs in the inning.
In the bottom of the eighth, Eppley started off the inning with a cannon of a hit into right field. With two outs
Jaela Haynes was called on to pinch hit. Haynes hit a ground ball to third and the fielder bobbled it. The throw made it a bang-bang play and the call did not go in Stetson's favor. If the call had gone in favor of Stetson, the game would have been tied at three as Eppley would've scored on the play. The Hatters fell by a final score of 3-2.
Hobbs finished with 7.1 innings pitched giving up three runs on eight hits. She allowed only two walks while striking out two.
Stetson will be back in action this weekend as they will travel to Conway, Arkansas to take on Central Arkansas in a three-game series. The first two games will be played on Friday, March 29 starting at 5:00pm. First pitch for Saturday's game is slated for noon.
