Stetson loses in nailbiter, 5-4 to North Alabama

FLORENCE, AL --North Alabama's one-run second proved to be the difference in the ballgame, as the Stetson Hatters lost a nailbiter to the Lions by the score of 5-4 on Saturday.

Senior Aric McAtee (1-2) started and took the loss on the mound for Stetson (25-14, 11-6). Senior Nick Durgin was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 3.1 shutout innings while allowing two hits, walking two and striking out two.

In the batter's box, the Hatters were paced by junior Gio Cueto, who went 2-for-5 on the day with an RBI. Junior Daniel Labrador put together a standout day at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Junior Yohann Dessureault also chipped in for Stetson, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 1-0, the Hatters first put runs on the board in the second inning. Labrador came across to score the lone run of the inning for Stetson and get them on the board.

The Lions then scored four runs to retake their advantage heading into the fifth inning, when the Hatters responded by getting back on the scoreboard themselves. Stetson brought home a pair, with one run driven in by Cueto's single, which brought the score to 5-3 in favor of the Lions.

Stetson held the Lions off the scoreboard before narrowing the gap to 5-4 in the seventh. The Hatters scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Labrador. The Hatters were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
