Oak Ridge, TN - The Stetson men's rowing team returned to action in Tennessee for the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Championship Regatta. The Hatters will have boats in the single, the pair and the varsity eight. Saturday all three of Stetson's boats qualified for the Grand Finals and on Sunday the Hatters brought home a silver medal in the single and a gold medal in the pair.
Saturday:
Gary Rought raced in the single on Saturday, qualifying with a time of 6:50.582 to finish second in his time trial behind High Point. In the pair,
Christopher Furton and
Ethan Hogan were in the boat for the Hatters finishing first in their time trial with a time of 6:42.558. The Hatters pair beat out boats from Texas, Liberty and Clemson. The times qualified both Stetson boats to be in their respective A Finals on Sunday.
The varsity 8+ finished in fifth place with a time of 5:12.875 beating out FIT and a few seconds behind the Notre Dame boat. The time advanced the Hatters to the semifinals. In the semis, the varsity 8+ came across the line in 6:01.52 to finish second in the heat barely getting edged out by the boat from Colgate. The finish makes it three for three for the Hatters as all the boats will be in the finals on Sunday.
Sunday:
The one and two boats picked up where they left off on Saturday, as Rought finished with a time of 7:38.264 to come in second, once again behind the High Point boat. Rought's finish earned him a silver medal. The two boat of Furton and Hogan, once again crossed the line to earn first with a time of 7:14.25. The finish was over eight seconds faster than the boat from Mercyhurst and earned the pair a gold medal.
The varsity 8+ rowed a time of 6:07.678 in their final to finish sixth, less than five seconds behind the boat from FIT.
