Hatters Drop Both Games in double header against EKU

The Hatters fell to Eastern Kentucky in both games of their double header Saturday afternoon.

In game one Lauren Hobbs started in the circle for Stetson and struck out the first three batters she faced. Stetson was able to strike first in the bottom half of the inning. Addison Foster singled to third base and quickly stole second. Two batters later Annabella McClerren singled to center field bringing Foster around to score. In the top of the second Hobbs tallied another two strikeouts. In the top of the fourth inning the Colonels got on the board tying the game at one but in the bottom of the inning Marissa Baxter answered for the Hatters with a triple down the right field line scoring Evette Morgan. Eastern Kentucky scored four runs in the top of the sixth and one in the top of the seventh as the Hatters fell 6-2.

The second game of the double header was scoreless through the first two innings. In the top of the third the Colonels scored five runs. The Hatters were able to one back in the bottom half of the inning. Foster led off the inning with a single to left field followed by a single to the shortstop by Madelyn Synoracki. Lath Freeman then drew a walk to lead the bases. McClerren grounded out to short, but Foster came across the plate and Stetson trailed 5-1.

In the bottom of the fourth Baxter singled up the middle and advanced to second on a pass ball. Robinson doubled to right center putting runners at second and third. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch. Nadia English reached on an error by the shortstop as Stetson plated their second run of the inning to make it 5-3. The Colonels added a run in the top of the fifth inning to make it 6-3.

In the bottom of the sixth Nadia English doubled down the left field line and that was followed by Foster drawing a walk. With two outs Freeman sent a rocket over the center field wall tying the game at six.

In the top of the seventh the Colonels had a runner on third with two outs. The batter hit a pop up the ended up falling between the pitcher and first baseman plating the eventual winning run. The Hatters fell 7-6.
