DeLAND, Fla. - Stetson Hall of Famer and Seattle Mariner's pitcher
Logan Gilbert was named to the 2024 American League All-Star team, announced by the MLB office on Sunday.
Coming in his fourth season with the big league club, it's the first career selection for Gilbert, who joins fellow Hatters
Jacob DeGrom and
Corey Kluber as All-Stars at the highest level. This will mark the 8th All-Star team to have a former Hatter named to it while it will be the first time a Hatter was named an All-Star since 2021 when DeGrom was named a representative of the New York Mets, although he would opt out of playing.
The 2024 MLB All-Star Game will be held on Tuesday, July 16, at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
He was among the elite in the AL pitching ranks entering Sunday, boasting impressive statistics: leading with a 0.92 WHIP, second in innings pitched at 117 2/3, second with just 6.42 hits per nine innings, sixth with a .592 OPS against, seventh with a 2.91 ERA, ninth with 108 strikeouts, and eleventh with a 4.50 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Â
He's also had three outings in which he threw eight shutout innings, on May 4 in Houston, on June 16 vs. Texas and on June 22 in Miami. His 14 quality starts are tied for the second most in the Majors, but among those, he has seven no-decisions and two losses.
His career at Stetson was nothing short of remarkable. Gilbert, an  Apopka, Fla., native, received multiple ASUN Pitcher of the Year awards and All-ASUN 1st Team honors while in DeLand. With an exceptional 23-3 record and an impressive 2.48 ERA, he struck out 310 batters while walking only 78 over the course of his collegiate journey.Â
Gilbert's junior season was particularly outstanding, as he set a new record for the most strikeouts in a single season with an impressive 143, surpassing the previous record set in 2000. Additionally, he ranked highly in various national categories, including fourth in ERA, first in fewest hits allowed per 9 innings, and second in total strikeouts. His remarkable achievements led to numerous accolades, including being named to multiple All-America teams and being a finalist for the Collegiate Baseball Foundation Pitcher of the Year award.
