Stetson Volleyball defeated UNCW Friday night 3-0, in a match where the Hatters never trailed.

In the first set, the Hatters jumped out to an early 5-0 lead with points coming from four different players. Stetson continued to hold onto their sizable lead and ended the set 25-19 on a kill by
Jenna Simmons.Â

The Hatters didn't jump out to a large lead in the second set but went on a 6-0 run to take a 14-8 lead book ended with kills from
Leilani Vitale. The second set ended 25-17 with
Kayla Balfour getting the final kill to put the Hatters up 2-0.Â

Set three was much more of a grind. Stetson was able to pull away by as many as six when they took a 17-11 lead on a kill by
Anabelle Standish. The Seahawks however clawed back to within one. The Hatters led 24-23 when Vitale sealed the match with the set ending 25-23.

Simmons led the team in kills with 13 followed by Vitale with 11 and Standish with 10.
Nyah Molina tallied 39 assists to go along with 4 kills and 8 digs. Defensively,
Haruka Sugimoto totaled a team high 23 digs followed by Simmons with 15 and Standish with 11.
Ayala Halfon was the team leader in total blocks with four.Â

Stetson will now travel up to South Carolina for a tournament. They will take on South Carolina on Friday, September 13 at 1pm. On Saturday, September 14 the Hatters will take on FIU and Wake Forest at 11am and 3pm respectively. Â
