Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Playing on the road for the first time since December 7, the Stetson Hatters fell to the Jacksonville Dolphins 68-60 on Thursday night at Swisher Gymnasium. Despite a stellar 21-point performance from standout guard Cameron Thomas, the Hatters dropped their first ASUN Conference game, snapping a three-game winning streak.
Stetson trailed by as many as 12 points but clawed back to within two late in the game before falling short in the final moments.
Thomas led all scorers, surpassing the 20-point mark for the seventh time this season. She shot 6-of-11 from the field, including a season-high five 3-pointers. Diawna Carter-Hartley provided a spark off the bench with nine points and four rebounds, while Mary McMillan added eight points and four assists.
The Hatters came out strong, racing to an 8-0 lead behind Thomas, who scored all eight points. She finished the first quarter with 11 points, helping Stetson build a 15-4 lead. However, the momentum shifted in the second quarter, as Jacksonville responded with a 27-5 run to take control of the game.
Facing a steep challenge, Stetson opened the second half with a 7-0 run, fueled by Carter-Hartley's four points and a Thomas three-pointer. The Hatters chipped away at the deficit throughout the third quarter, closing the gap to 51-43 entering the final frame.
In the fourth quarter, a Tiasia McMillan layup and a pair of free throws by Shelby Calhoun cut the margin to five. Thomas then hit a timely three-pointer to make it a one possession game. With 21 seconds left, Calhoun's layup once again made it a two-point game, but Jacksonville sealed the win at the free-throw line.
Stetson will look to bounce back on Saturday when they stay in Jacksonville to face the North Florida Ospreys at 2:00 PM.
