FLORENCE, Ala. – The Stetson women's basketball team held a 34-31 halftime lead over North Alabama but couldn't sustain it, falling 75-57 to the Lions on Thursday night.
The Hatters (9-8, 3-2 ASUN) had three players score in double figures. Diawna Carter-Hartley posted her first double-double as a Hatter with 12 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. Tyra Myers added a season-high 11 points off the bench, while Quentarra Mitchell contributed 11 points and two steals.
Carter-Hartley's double-double marked the team's fourth of the season, following efforts by Mary McMillan and Cameron Thomas in the win over North Florida last Saturday.
After trailing 5-0 early, the Hatters responded with a 6-0 run, capped by a Mitchell basket, to take a 6-5 lead midway through the first quarter. North Alabama regained control, leaving Stetson down 16-10 heading into the second quarter.
The Lions extended their lead to 23-14 before the Hatters answered with a 14-0 run, surging ahead 28-23. Stetson held on to a 34-31 advantage at the break.
However, the Lions reclaimed momentum in the third quarter, outscoring the Hatters 20-9 to take a 51-43 lead. Stetson couldn't close the gap in the final period, ultimately falling by 18 points.
The Hatters continue their road trip Saturday, Jan. 19, with a 2:00 PM matchup against Central Arkansas.
