DeLand, Fla. — Stetson delivered one of its strongest performances of the season Tuesday evening, handing Jacksonville its first conference loss with a 3–1 victory at the Edmunds Center (25-19, 25-18, 16-25, 25-18). The Hatters controlled the match at the net, finishing with 14 blocks while totaling 50 kills on the night.
Stetson set the tone early with steady offensive rhythm and timely defensive stops.
Jenna Simmons and
Lilyanna Parker sparked the opening set, while
Zuzanna Bury added a service ace to help build an early cushion. The Hatters continued to apply pressure, capitalizing on Jacksonville attack errors, and closing out the first set 25-19 behind a decisive kill from Simmons.
The momentum carried into the second set, where key contributions from Parker and Bury helped Stetson stay in front. A strong block from
Kayla Balfour and Parker, followed by another Bury kill, pushed the Hatters ahead late. Bury sealed the frame with another finish from a
Nyah Molina assist, securing a 25-18 set win and a 2–0 match lead.
Jacksonville responded in the third, jumping ahead early and keeping control throughout to take the set 25-16. Stetson cut into the deficit late with a service ace from
Lindsay Cox and a block from Balfour and Molina, but the Dolphins held on to extend the match.
The Hatters regrouped quickly in the fourth, opening with a 4–0 run fueled by a Bury ace and a kill from
Xinlei Yang. Stetson's block continued to be a difference maker, with Balfour and Simmons leading the way defensively. Cox added another service ace to stretch the lead and Bury closed the match with her 19th kill to seal the 25-18 set and the 3–1 win.
Molina anchored the offense with 38 assists while adding 20 digs. Bury led all hitters with 19 kills and two service aces for 22 total points. Balfour made her presence felt at the net with nine blocks and seven kills, and
Vitoria Stedile paced the back row with 15 digs.
Stetson concludes its home stand on Saturday, Oct. 26, hosting North Florida at the Insight Credit Union Arena at Edmunds Center. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
