Jacksonville, Fla. — Stetson University (4-11-0, 1-5-0 ASUN) fell 2-0 to Jacksonville University (8-4-1, 5-1-0 ASUN) on Thursday evening at Southern Oak Stadium. Despite the loss, the Hatters showed strong defensive organization and steady goalkeeping from
Mackenzie Caprez, who tallied five saves in the match.
The opening minutes saw Stetson settle in defensively as Caprez came up with several key stops to deny early chances from the Dolphins. Jacksonville eventually broke through in the 17th minute on a goal from Paula Herranz, then added another late in the half when Alicia Rey Perez doubled the advantage to make it 2-0 at halftime.
Stetson generated several quality scoring opportunities throughout the match.
Payton Quinones and
Stella Comana both forced saves from Jacksonville goalkeeper Pia Bozic, while
Brooke Voorhees and
Sophia Baldwin added additional pressure in the second half. The Hatters continued to push late, earning a corner kick in the 86th minute and a shot from
Natalia Dorn that narrowly missed the mark.
Caprez anchored the defense with five saves on 14 shots faced across 90 minutes of play. Comana and Quinones each led the Hatters with two shots on goal, while Voorhees added two attempts to round out a balanced offensive effort.
