HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Stetson beach volleyball sent two pairs to compete at the AVCA Beach National Championships, which began Friday, Nov. 7. Representing the Hatters were Katie and Madeline Camp, along with Marta Carro and Maria Ozaeta.
Carro and Ozaeta opened the day with a hard-fought three-set victory over No. 41 LSU's Camryn Chatellier and Tatum Finlason, winning 21-23, 21-19, 15-8. The pair then faced No. 9 Arizona State's Ava Kirunchyk and Samaya Morin, falling in straight sets, 21-16, 21-18.
The Camp sisters began their tournament against No. 39 Texas A&M–Corpus Christi's Kristin Bobay and Madison Morrow, dropping a close three-set match, 21-18, 17-21, 9-15. They later faced No. 58 Santa Clara's Avery Cukjati and Sadie Snipes but came up short, 21-13, 21-18.
Action continued Saturday, Nov. 8, with both Stetson pairs back on the sand. Ozaeta and Carro started the day against No. 25 Washington's Teila Allen and Emma Hohenaur, falling 21-17, 21-18. They followed with a close three-set battle against No. 17 Texas's Chloe Charles and Emma Grace Robertson, narrowly dropping the match 18-21, 21-15, 12-15. The duo will next take on No. 29 Grand Canyon's Grace Goudy and Ines Piret on Sunday, Nov. 9.
The Camp sisters earned their first win of the tournament on Saturday, defeating No. 55 Hawai'i's Emily Heintzelman and Sydney Miller in three sets, 21-18, 18-21, 15-12. They then moved on to face No. 47 North Alabama's Audrey Gauthier and Selma Robinson, falling 21-18, 21-16.
Competition will continue Sunday, Nov. 9, as both Stetson pairs look to finish strong and improve their final standings at the AVCA Beach National Championships.
