Betts, Bankston Score as Hatters Fall to Marist

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — The Stetson Hatters fell 41-13 to the Marist on Saturday afternoon at Tenney Stadium in the Empire State.

The Hatters (3-7, 2-4 PFL) battled through a challenging road test, finding the end zone twice while producing 150 rushing yards against the Red Foxes.

Cayden Betts led Stetson's ground game with 63 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown, while Michael Dempsey added 81 yards on 13 attempts, averaging 6.2 yards per carry. Through the air, Beau Bankston hauled in two receptions for 45 yards and a touchdown, the first of his career, while Dylan Redmon added three catches for 48 yards.

Quarterback Kael Alexander went 7-for-19 for 59 yards and a touchdown, and fellow signal caller Gavin Rupp added 45 yards on his lone completion.

Defensively, Andrew Martin paced the Hatters with nine total tackles, one sack, and a tackle for loss. Kyle Elphick and Mohamed Toure each contributed key stops in the backfield as the Hatters limited Marist to just 187 passing yards.

Marist jumped ahead early and capitalized on Stetson turnovers throughout the first half to take a 38-0 lead. The Hatters got on the board just before halftime when Alexander connected with Bankston on a 7-yard touchdown strike with two seconds left in the second quarter.

Stetson added another score in the fourth quarter, capping a sustained drive with a two-yard rushing touchdown by Betts to make it 41-13. 

The Hatters now prepares for its final road game of the season, traveling to Valparaiso, Ind., to face the Beacons on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 1:00 p.m. at Brown Field. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
