CAGUAS, Puerto Rico – Jayden Hylton went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, but Stetson fell 6-1 to Michigan on Monday morning in a matchup of undefeated teams, wrapping up the inaugural Puerto Rico Challenge.
Marcus Davenport made his Stetson debut on the mound, taking the loss after allowing three earned runs over 4.2 innings with two strikeouts. Junior Brendan Walker provided a strong relief effort, tossing 3.1 innings while allowing one run on three hits with six consecutive strikeouts. As a whole, Stetson pitchers combined to face 43 Michigan batters in the game, forcing 10 ground balls and nine fly balls while striking out eight.
Offensively, Hylton continued his hot start to the season, delivering a 2-for-4 performance. The Hatters' lone run came in the ninth when he ripped an RBI single through the right side, scoring Lorenzo Meola from second.
Stetson now returns to the mainland for its home opener at Melching Field at Conrad Park, where the Hatters will host UMBC, Iowa, and Notre Dame over the weekend. They open the series against UMBC on Friday, Feb. 21, at 6:30 p.m.
