RICHMOND, KY — The Stetson women's basketball team fell short on Thursday night, falling to the EKU Colonels 77-70 on the road, splitting the season series.
The Hatters, now 12-1 on the season and 6-5 in ASUN play, had four players score in double figures, led by Diawna Carter-Hartley, who recorded her third double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds. It was also her fourth consecutive game with 10+ boards.
Shelby Calhoun tied her season-high with 13 points for the second straight game, adding seven rebounds. Cameron Thomas and Mary McMillan both provided 11 points as well.
After falling behind 11-7, Stetson went on a 7-0 run, capped off by a basket from Calhoun, to take a 14-11 lead with 2:53 left in the first quarter. The Hatters then added four more points to that lead, ending the period with a 20-13 advantage.
Stetson extended its lead to 33-24 early in the second quarter, then went on a 5-0 run starting at the 1:29 mark, highlighted by a three-pointer from McMillan, to push the lead to 38-24. Although EKU chipped away at the deficit, Stetson still held a 38-28 lead at halftime.
Following the break, the Hatters maintained their advantage and led 53-47 heading into the final quarter. However, EKU surged in the fourth, erasing Stetson's lead and completing a 77-70 comeback victory.
Stetson will return to action on Saturday, looking for redemption against the Bellarmine Knights at Freedom Hall in Louisville, KY, at 2:00 PM.
