Gonzalez Dominant for Stetson in Shutout Win over FGCU

DeLAND, FL – Senior southpaw Jonathan Gonzalez delivered a dominant performance on Saturday night, tossing a two-hit shutout to lead the Stetson Hatters to a 10-0 run-rule victory over the FGCU Eagles in eight innings.

Gonzalez (3-1) went the distance for Stetson (10-10, 1-1), allowing just two hits, walking one, and striking out nine. His nine strikeouts marked the most by a Hatter pitcher this season and the most since Daniel Paret struck out nine on March 10, 2024. The complete game was the first by a Stetson pitcher since Anthony DeFabbia's 4-2 win over Brown last year.

The Hatters took control in the fourth inning, scoring five runs. Sophomore Salvador Alvarez drove in two with a single, and Junior Lorenzo Meola followed with a two-run single of his own.

Stetson added runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings, capping off the scoring with RBI singles from Landon Moran and Isaiah Barkett. The game ended in the eighth when Landon Russell and Jordan Taylor drove in a pair of runs, with Taylor's hit delivering the walk-off score.

Every Stetson starter reached base, as the Hatters out-hit the Eagles 11-2, including a 6-for-14 showing with runners in scoring position.

The series finale is scheduled for tomorrow at noon at Melching Field.
