Stetson Drops First Two Games Against North Florida

DeLand, Fla. – Stetson softball dropped the first two games of their conference series against North Florida on Saturday afternoon. The Hatters fell 5-0 in the first game and lost 10-1 in five innings in the second.

In game one, Kennedy Temples took the mound for Stetson, pitching three innings while giving up two runs, one earned, on three hits, three walks, and two strikeouts. Ava Braswell came in relief in the fourth inning, tossing two innings and allowing two runs, zero earned, on three hits. Caitlin Mullen also made an appearance, pitching two innings and allowing one run on four hits, one walk, and striking out one.

In the top of the third inning Gia Napoli made a tremendous throw after catching a fly ball and threw out a runner at the plate to keep the Ospreys from making it 3-0. The Hatters managed five hits in the game, with Kami Eppley and Irianis Garcia each recording a double, but were unable to score.

In the second game, Caitlyn Kulczyski started and went three innings in the loss. Hayley Arnold and Mullen both came out of the bullpen, with Mullen throwing two shutout innings.

Stetson's lone run came in the bottom of the fourth. Emily Santana led off with a single to center, followed by a right-field single from Nadia English, who recorded her second hit of the day. Annabella McClerren then hit a ground ball to second, and the throw was mishandled, allowing Taibl, who was pinch running for Santana, to score.

The Hatters will look to bounce back as they close out the weekend series with North Florida on Sunday, March 16. The start time has been moved to 11:00 a.m. due to expected weather in the afternoon.
