DeLand, Fla. - The Stetson Hatters closed out their first ASUN series of the season on Sunday afternoon, falling to the North Florida Ospreys 9-1 in five innings.
Stetson (16-14, 0-3 ASUN) grabbed an early lead in the second inning, when left fielder Annabella McClerrin singled to third base and stole second base, before coming in to score on a single down the left field line from shortstop
Irianis Garcia.
North Florida (23-9, 3-0 ASUN) responded in the top of the third though, striking for three runs to take a 3-1 lead before putting up six more runs in the top of the fourth.
The Hatters looked poised to respond in the bottom of the fourth, putting third baseman
Nadia English and first baseman
Devon Weller on base with one out, but a pair of pop-ups ended the threat.
Designated player
Amber Chumley roped a double to the gap in left-center field in the seventh, but the Hatters were unable to capitalize.
Centerfielder
Kami Eppley reached base twice on the day, picking up a single and a walk, while six other Hatters tallied a hit.
The Hatters take a break from ASUN play on Wednesday, welcoming the USF Bulls to Patricia Wilson Field for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 PM. Stetson will then welcome FGCU to DeLand for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 PM on Saturday and a single game at 1:00 PM on Sunday.
