DeLAND, FL – The Stetson Hatters mounted a thrilling comeback to secure a 5-4 walk-off victory over Mount St. Mary's on Sunday afternoon at Melching Field. The Hatters, who had 13 comeback wins last season, earned their first walk-off win of 2025 when junior Lorenzo Meola delivered an RBI double in the bottom of the ninth to drive in Salvador Perez, who had walked to lead off the inning.
Meola had a standout performance at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, and two RBIs.
Zane Coppersmith earned his first win of the season, pitching two shutout innings of relief. He allowed just one hit, struck out three, and did not issue a walk. Jake Gorelick also impressed in relief, throwing two shutout innings with one hit allowed, no walks, and two strikeouts. Starter Mason Davenport struck out five batters in his outing. As a staff, Stetson's pitchers limited Mount St. Mary's to just 1-for-6 (.167) with runners in scoring position.
The Hatters got on the scoreboard in the third inning when Meola hit a two-out solo home run to right field, his third of the season.
After losing the lead they built in the third, the Hatters tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth when junior Landon Russell crossed the plate on a run-scoring play.
Mount St. Mary's took a 4-2 lead, but Stetson quickly responded in the sixth to pull within one. A successful double steal by Nelphie Lopez and Juan De La Cruz allowed De La Cruz to score and make it 4-3.
The Hatters tied it again in the eighth, when De La Cruz delivered an RBI single to bring the score to 4-4.
In the ninth, with the game still tied, Meola came through with the decisive blow, hitting the walk-off double to right that scored Perez, who had reached base on a walk to start the inning.
Stetson will now hit the road for a four-game series against the BYU Cougars in Utah, scheduled for March 5-8.
