DeLand, FL - On Saturday, March 8, the Stetson University rowing team competed against UCF at the Sandra Stetson Aquatic Center on Lake Beresford under perfect racing conditions. The temperatures ranged from 59 to 71 degrees, with a light tailwind of 0 to 2 mph and minimal boat wake, creating an ideal environment for fast, competitive races.

Stetson Coach Jamie Francis commented, "Good racing across the board. We benefitted from fantastic conditions and not much boat wake. Thanks to Central Florida Rowing for making the trip to DeLand."

Race Results:

• Men's 1V8 (Varsity 8):

  • Stetson 1V: 5:52.1
  • Central Florida: 6:25.6
    Stetson's Varsity 8 secured a dominant win, crossing the finish line nearly 35 seconds ahead of Central Florida.

• Men's 2V8 (2nd Varsity 8):

  • Stetson: 6:25.8
  • Central Florida: 7:06.4
    Stetson's second varsity crew posted a strong time of 6:25.8, finishing 40 seconds ahead of Central Florida for another victory.

• Men's 3V4 (3rd Varsity Four):

  • Stetson: 8:23.1
  • Central Florida: 8:30.4
    The Stetson third varsity four team held off Central Florida in a tight race, finishing just 7 seconds ahead to take the win.

Women's Events:

• Varsity 8 (Women's):

  • Stetson 1V: 6:57.0
  • Stetson 2V: 7:22.6
  • Central Florida: 8:18.5
    In the women's Varsity 8, Stetson claimed the top two spots, with the 1V finishing at 6:57.0 and the 2V at 7:22.6.

• Varsity Four (Women's):

  • Stetson: 8:48.6
  • Central Florida: 9:12.9
    Stetson's Varsity Four team triumphed with a time of 8:48.6, finishing comfortably ahead of Central Florida's 9:12.9.

• Frosh/Novice 8 (Women's):

  • Stetson: 7:51.5
  • Central Florida: 8:40.0
    Stetson's Novice 8 posted a strong performance with a time of 7:51.5, over 45 seconds ahead of Central Florida.

• Women's 2x (Double):

  • Stetson: 8:18.5
  • Central Florida: 9:31.7
    The Stetson Women's Double earned an impressive victory, finishing at 8:18.5, more than a minute ahead of Central Florida.

Overall, it was a successful day for Stetson's rowing program, with strong victories across both men's and women's events. The team made the most of the perfect weather and clean water conditions at Lake Beresford, and with Central Florida providing competitive racing, Stetson's rowers showed their strength.
