Hatters Rack Up 17 Hits in 15-5 Run Rule Win over North Florida

Barkett, Moran and Apple shine while Taylor homers

DeLAND, Fla. – The Stetson Hatters erupted for a season-high 17 hits in a 15-5 run-rule victory over North Florida on Friday night at Melching Field. Stetson has now won 11 of its last 12 games, improving to 22-13 overall and 11-2 in ASUN play. It marked the Hatters' ninth game this season scoring 10 or more runs—and their third run-rule win.

Isaiah Barkett stayed red-hot at the plate, notching three hits in the win. He was joined by freshman Foster Apple and junior Landon Moran, who each turned in three-hit performances. Moran ripped a pair of RBI doubles, while Apple went 3-for-4 with a double, a walk, and three RBIs. He also put the final ball in play that led to the game-ending run. In all, six Hatters recorded multi-hit games, and the team went 7-for-14 (.500) with runners in scoring position.

Junior Turner Spoljaric (1-1) picked up his first win of the season out of the bullpen, tossing three innings and allowing three runs on four hits with no walks and two strikeouts. James Hays started on the mound and fanned three across four innings of work.

After falling behind 1-0, the Hatters got on the board in the second inning when Jordan Taylor crushed a two-run home run—107 mph off the bat and 430 feet—with Apple on base.

Stetson broke the game open in the third, plating eight runs on six hits. The rally included five straight hits and RBI walks to Barkett and Apple, eventually extending the lead to 10-1.

North Florida cut into the deficit in the fourth, but the Hatters answered with two more runs in the fifth, capped by an RBI double from Moran, to make it 12-2.

The Ospreys made it 12-5 before Stetson ended the game in the seventh. An error on Apple's final at-bat brought home Moran to trigger the run rule.

Stetson and North Florida return to the diamond Saturday night for game two of the series.
