Meola Homers in 8-4 Win Over North Florida

Barket, De La Cruz and Moran Also Record Multi-Hit Games in the Series Sweep

DeLAND, FL – Junior shortstop Lorenzo Meola helped break the game open on Sunday afternoon, launching a three-run home run to lead Stetson to an 8-4 win over North Florida at Melching Field. With the victory, the Hatters completed the series sweep and extended their winning streak to seven games.

Junior Ethan Phillips (1-2) earned the win on the mound for Stetson (24-13, 13-2 ASUN), tossing five shutout innings. The right-hander allowed just four hits, walked one, and struck out four. Senior Justin Solimine provided strong relief, pitching two shutout innings and giving up only one hit, while striking out one and walking none. As a team, Stetson's pitchers held North Florida to just 2-for-11 (.182) with runners in scoring position.

Offensively, Isaiah Barkett led the way with three hits and a walk, while Juan De La Cruz also had a solid performance with a multli-hit game, including a double, plus a walk and an RBI. Meola was another standout, going 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk, and three RBIs. Landon Moran rounded out the Hatters offense with a two-hit game including a double and an RBI. The Hatters were aggressive on the basepaths throughout the game, stealing five bases, three of which came from De La Cruz.

Stetson struck early, putting a run on the board in the first inning when De La Cruz came around to score on a double steal. They added to the lead in the third with an RBI single from Moran, making it 2-0.

The Hatters broke the game wide open in the fifth, scoring five runs. Meola's three-run home run, which ricocheted off the left-field foul pole, was the highlight of the inning. Jordan Taylor followed with an RBI double, and later scored on a wild pitch, pushing the lead to 7-0.

In the sixth, Stetson added another run when De La Cruz singled in an RBI, extending the lead to 8-0. North Florida managed to score four runs late, but the Hatters held firm to secure the 8-4 victory.

Next up, Stetson will travel to Gainesville on Tuesday, April 15, for a matchup against the Florida Gators. First pitch is set for 6:00 PM.
