DELAND, Fla. – Freshman Hayley Arnold and junior Caitlyn Kulczyski combined for a one-hit shutout on Sunday afternoon, leading Stetson to a 2-0 victory over Queens at Patricia Wilson Field. Devon Weller provided the offensive spark with a two-run homer in the second inning.
"I am very proud of the team and how they performed this weekend," said Head Coach Shellie Cousins. "We did everything we needed to do to get the sweep. Pitchers were working ahead, hitters were swinging with confidence and defense was solid. We've got three big weekends left and now we shift our focus to FGCU for another away series. I'm excited to see how this team competes this weekend.
Arnold earned the win with five dominant innings, allowing just one hit while striking out five and walking three. Kulczyski was sharp in relief, tossing two hitless frames with one walk and one strikeout to earn the save. The duo faced 28 batters, inducing six groundouts and nine flyouts while striking out six to complete the shutout.
The Hatters struck in the bottom of the second when senior Devon Weller launched a two-run shot to left, scoring Nadia English and giving Stetson all the offense it would need.
Addison Foster continued her red-hot stretch at the plate, drawing a walk in the third inning to extend her on-base streak to 25 consecutive games—moving her into fifth all-time in program history, surpassing Jessie TenBroeck.
Stetson will hit the road next weekend for a three-game series at Florida Gulf Coast, beginning Friday, April 18 at 4:00 p.m.
