Stetson Completes Series Sweep over Queens 3-1 Behind Gonzalez's 10 Ks

Hatters clinch playoff berth with their fourth straight conference sweep

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Senior Jonathan Gonzalez delivered another dominant performance on the mound, striking out 10 over 6.1 innings to lead the Stetson Hatters to a 3-1 win over Queens on Saturday night. It marked his third straight outing with 10 or more strikeouts, and he has yet to allow an earned run in any of those starts.

With the win, Stetson (27-14, 16-2 ASUN) clinched a spot in the 2025 Atlantic Sun Championship tournament and secured its fourth consecutive conference sweep.

Gonzalez (6-1) allowed just one run on four hits and one walk, continuing his stellar run of form. Senior Ty Van Dyke came in to close, earning his sixth save of the season with 2.2 shutout innings, striking out four and allowing only two hits. Together, the duo held Queens to just 1-for-6 (.167) with runners in scoring position.

Offensively, the Hatters out-hit the Royals 10-6. Freshman Foster Apple, coming off his first career home run the night before, led the way at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Junior Jordan Taylor added a run-scoring double in the fifth and swiped three bases to spark the offense.

Stetson broke a scoreless tie in the fifth with two runs, highlighted by Taylor's RBI double. The Hatters extended their lead to 3-0 in the seventh on Apple's RBI single. Queens (NC) managed to push one run across late, but Stetson's pitching held firm to seal the win.

The Hatters now return to the Sunshine State for a Tuesday night showdown on the road against No. 7 Florida State in Tallahassee, scheduled for April 22.
