Stetson out-hits #4 Florida State 10-8, but Falls 11-6

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Despite picking up 10 hits in the ballgame and out-hitting Florida State, Stetson was unable to push across more runs, as the Hatters fell to the No. 4 Seminoles 11-6 Tuesday night.

Sophomore Zane Coppersmith came out of the bullpen for Stetson (27-15) and took the loss while junior Turner Spoljaric was a bright spot for the Hatters, coming out of the bullpen as well and throwing two scoreless innings, allowing no hits. Ethan Phillips made the start on the mound, tossing two shutout innings to open the game.

Offensively, the Hatters were led by junior Isaiah Barkett, who went 2-for-5 on the day with three RBIs. Junior Jordan Taylor continues to stay hot with a standout effort as well, going 2-for-4 with a double. Junior Landon Russell also chipped in for Stetson, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding two walks.

The Hatters put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Junior Landon Moran came across to score the lone run of the inning for Stetson and get them on the board.

The Seminoles failed to push any runs across before the Hatters built on their lead in the fourth inning. Stetson scored three runs in the frame, buoyed by a two-run single off the bat of Barkett, which brought the score to 4-0 in favor of the Hatters.

Stetson's lead had evaporated by the time the sixth inning came around and turned into an 8-4 Florida State advantage, when the Hatters cut that deficit to 8-6. The Hatters scored twice, with one run coming across on freshman Foster Apple's single. The Hatters were unable to get any closer, as Florida State added three runs to their tally on the way to an 11-6 final.

Stetson now turns its attention back to conference play, traveling to Jacksonville for a weekend series against North Florida.
