Taylor Records 5 RBIs in Stetson's 16-3 Run Rule Victory Over North Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Junior Jordan Taylor collected five RBIs to help power the Stetson Hatters past the North Florida Ospreys, 16-3, on Sunday afternoon. The Hatters needed just seven innings to secure the win via the run rule, putting up a season-high in runs scored. It marked their fifth run-rule victory of the season, as they took their seventh conference series—despite seeing their 15-game ASUN win streak come to an end on Saturday.

Sophomore Matthew Heyl (2-0) earned the win out of the bullpen for Stetson (29-16, 18-3). The left-hander threw 2.2 shutout innings, allowing just two hits, walking one, and striking out two. Ethan Phillips got the start on the mound, while Ty Van Dyke closed things out by striking out the final three batters of the game.

Taylor went 3-for-4 with two doubles and five RBIs to lead the Hatters offensively. Freshman Foster Apple turned in another standout performance, going 3-for-4 with a double, a walk, and three RBIs. Freshman Danny Perez also contributed in a big way, going 3-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs. As a team, Stetson went 11-for-17 with runners in scoring position and outhit North Florida 15-8.

The Hatters got on the board immediately, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Taylor.

After the Ospreys cut the lead to 3-2, Stetson responded in the fourth with an RBI single from Perez to make it 4-2. They added another run in the fifth to stretch the lead to 5-2.

The Hatters broke things open in the sixth inning, scoring five runs. The frame was highlighted by a two-run single from sophomore Nelphie Lopez, extending the lead to 10-2.

North Florida added a run to make it 10-3, but Stetson answered with a six-run seventh inning. Following an RBI double from Barkett, with bases loaded, Taylor delivered a two-run single, and Apple followed with an RBI double as the Hatters pulled away to a 16-3 lead. That score held, and the game was called after seven innings.

Stetson will return home to Melching Field on Tuesday following their extended road trip. The Hatters will host South Florida to open a lengthy homestand, with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 PM.
