DeLand, Fla. – Building on the momentum of the 2025 campaign, Stetson Men's Golf has added one of the top golfers in the country with the signing of Matthis Lefèvre, a native of Hossegor, France. Lefèvre, who spent his senior season at the University of Arkansas, joins the Hatters as they look to continue their rise after earning the program's third postseason berth and recording a runner-up finish at the 2025 ASUN Championship, the team's highest conference finish in decades.
"We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Matthis to the family," said Head Coach Danny Forshey. "He brings championship experience, elite scoring ability, and a competitive mindset that fits perfectly with the culture we're continuing to build."
Lefèvre arrives in DeLand following a strong 2023-24 season in the SEC, where he posted a 71.75 scoring average, third-best on the Razorbacks' roster, while competing in six events. He recorded four top-20 finishes and nine rounds of par or better, including a standout performance at the SEC Championship, where he tied for 17th (71-70-68) and won both of his match play matches. He also represented Arkansas at the NCAA Austin Regional and earned SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll honors.
Prior to Arkansas, Lefèvre was one of the most dominant junior college players in recent memory at New Mexico Junior College. As a sophomore, he won the prestigious 2023 GCAA/NJCAA Jack Nicklaus Award as the NJCAA Division I Player of the Year, leading the nation with a 70.29 scoring average. He finished top-10 in all 12 events, with four victories and nine top-5 finishes. He also made headlines by winning the 2022 IPS New Mexico Open, becoming the first amateur to do so since 1968, after tying the course record with a final-round 9-under 62.
Lefèvre's freshman season was equally impressive. He was named the 2022 GCAA/NJCAA Division I Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award winner, while earning PING Second Team All-America and WJCAC Player of the Year honors. Over two seasons at NMJC, he set school records for career wins (9), season wins (5), and career scoring average, while amassing a combined 35 rounds in the 60s.
"Matthis has played and won at every level, from junior college to the SEC, and he has the poise, experience, and talent to make an immediate impact," said Coach Forshey. "With the success our program has seen these past seasons, adding a player of his caliber pushes us even closer to championship contention."
