Sandwich, ENGLAND – The story continues to build for Stetson men's golf at The 130th Amateur Championship, as both Matthis LeFevre and Gaspar Glaudas claimed victories Thursday morning to advance to the Round of 16.
LeFevre defeated Kris Kim of Wentworth Foundation 2&1, while Glaudas secured his second straight 2&1 victory, this time over Eliot Baker of Tiverton. With just 16 golfers remaining, the Hatters are now among elite company at one of the most prestigious amateur tournaments in the world.
The event, hosted by The R&A and played at Royal St George's and Royal Cinque Ports, began with 288 of the top amateur golfers from across the globe. After two rounds of stroke play, the field was trimmed to 64 for match play.
LeFevre, who tied for fourth in qualifying at 7-under, won his Round of 64 match in extra holes before a 2&1 win propelled him into the final 16. Glaudas, who tied for 22rd in stroke play at 4-under, has also notched two consecutive 2&1 wins to reach this stage.
On Thursday afternoon, LeFevre will square off against Daniel Bennett of South Africa, while Glaudas will face Gavin Tiernan of County Louth (Ireland) with a spot in the quarterfinals on the line.
The eventual champion will earn exemptions into The Open Championship, The Masters Tournament, and the U.S. Open.
