FORT MYERS, Fla. – Lorenzo Meola recorded a pair of doubles and Nelphie Lopez homered for the third time in two days, but Stetson was unable to keep pace with FGCU on Friday afternoon, falling 10-3 at Swanson Stadium.
With the loss, the Hatters move to 37-18 overall and 24-5 in ASUN play. Senior right-hander Justin Solimine (3-1) suffered his first defeat of the season after starting on the mound for Stetson.
Meola led the offense with a 2-for-4 effort, collecting two extra-base hits and scoring a run. Lopez continued his power surge, going 1-for-3 with a solo shot to right to bring his home run total to five on the season. His fourth-inning blast was his third in the last two games. Isaiah Barkett saw his 18-game hit streak come to an end after going hitless on the afternoon.
After falling behind 3-0, the Hatters responded with a pair of runs in the fourth inning. Meola and Foster Apple came around to score on back-to-back RBI groundouts from Landon Moran and Jordan Taylor, cutting the deficit to 3-2.
Lopez brought Stetson within one in the fifth with his leadoff home run, but the Hatters wouldn't score again as FGCU pulled away with six unanswered runs to seal the win.
Stetson will aim to bounce back and close out the regular season on a high note when the Hatters and Eagles meet for the series and season finale on Saturday at 1:00 PM in Fort Myers.
