Hatters Sweep Doubleheader Against West Georgia in Dominant Fashion

DeLand, Fla. – Stetson softball kicked off its weekend series, sweeping a Friday doubleheader against West Georgia. The Hatters took game one with a 9-1 run-rule victory in five innings, then followed with a 6-0 shutout in game two.

Kennedy Temples earned the win for Stetson, pitching four innings and allowing just one run on three hits while striking out one. Caitlyn Kulczyski closed the game with a hitless, scoreless fifth inning.

The Hatters wasted no time getting on the board, exploding for five runs in the bottom of the first. Addison Foster doubled to center and Kami Eppley walked before Amber Chumley launched a three-run homer to right-center. Devon Weller singled, and consecutive walks to Dylan Anthony and Annabella McClerren loaded the bases. Irianis Garcia blooped an RBI single to left, and a bases-loaded walk to Foster capped the inning at 5-0.

After West Georgia scratched across a run in the fourth, Stetson answered with three more. Napoli walked, followed by singles from Foster and Eppley. Nadia English drove in Foster, and Weller notched her second RBI hit of the day to extend the lead to 8-1.

Kulczyski held West Georgia in check in the fifth, and the Hatters sealed the win in the bottom half as Emily Santana walked and Gia Napoli doubled to left-center to invoke the run rule.

Ava Braswell notched her 10th win of the season with a five-inning shutout, scattering three hits while striking out three. Hayley Arnold came on in relief, tossing two scoreless innings with two strikeouts and one hit allowed.

Stetson once again scored early, taking a 1-0 lead in the first on a wild pitch that brought home Foster. The offense broke it open in the second with a five-run outburst. After three straight walks loaded the bases, Foster blasted a grand slam to right-center. Eppley followed with a single and Chumley doubled her in for the final run of the game.
Braswell and Arnold combined to shut down the Wolves, securing the sweep and a dominant start to the series.

Stetson got contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely in the first game. Offensively, the Hatters were led by Foster, who went 3-5 with two walks and five RBIs. Chumley also had a solid outing at the dish, going 4-6 with four RBIs.

Stetson will wrap up the weekend series and the regular season against West Georgia on Saturday, May 3 at 2:00pm. Prior to the game, the Hatters will honor their seniors Kami Eppley, Dylan Anthony and Devon Weller.
