DeLAND, Fla. — The Stetson Hatters return home this Saturday, September 6, at 6:00 p.m. to face the Warner Royals at Spec Martin Memorial Stadium. After a hard-fought 31-21 season-opening loss to Webber International, Stetson (0-1) will look to regroup and continue its strong history against the Royals.
The Hatters enter the matchup with momentum on their side historically, holding a 4-0 record over Warner dating back to 2013 — including a 31-3 victory in Stetson's first official game as a sponsored sport by the University since 1956. Stetson also boasts a 12-1 all-time record against Sun Conference opponents, with their only loss coming in week one of the current season.
Last week, Stetson showcased several bright spots despite the defeat. Quarterback Kael Alexander completed 16-of-25 passes for 164 yards and his first career touchdown pass, a 20-yard strike to tight end Anthony Benzija, who also notched his first collegiate score at the position. On the ground, Trey Clark led the rushing attack with 74 yards on 14 carries, while newcomer Cayden Betts scored his first touchdown for the Hatters. Defensively, Shug Bentley recorded nine tackles and Kyle Elphick added seven stops, keeping Stetson competitive throughout.
The Warner Royals will be playing their first game of the 2025 season and feature a revamped offense after losing key skill players Shane Hamm, Clyde Holland, and Evens Valcourt. Returning for Warner is Cameron Miller, last season's team leader in touchdown receptions, who will look to connect with graduate quarterback Jeremiah Johnson. The Royals finished seventh in the Sun Conference in scoring offense (17.8 points per game) and last in defense (allowing 48.2 points per game) last season.
