Stetson Falls in Four Sets to George Washington

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Stetson volleyball dropped a four-set decision to George Washington on Saturday at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena, falling 19-25, 17-25, 25-22, 19-25.

After an early 12-9 push in the first set keyed by Lilyanna Parker's kills and back-to-back aces, and a late block from Kayla Balfour and Nyah Molina, Stetson couldn't overcome George Washington's fast start and dropped the opener 25-19. Set two featured early kills from Xinlei Yang and a momentum-stopping strike by Zuzanna Bury, but the Colonials pulled away 25-17.

Stetson responded in the third. Molina spread the offense between Yang, Parker and Bury, with Bury delivering a pivotal late kill off a Vanessa Shevchenko assist to secure a 25-22 win and extend the match. In the fourth, the Hatters clawed back from an early 4-0 deficit, tying at 8-8 thanks to a Vitoria Stedile ace and a Jenna Simmons block. Despite more kills from Bury and Balfour, George Washington held on for a 25-19 victory to end the match.

Molina paced the Hatters with 33 assists and seven digs. Bury led the attack with 15 kills, followed by Yang with nine and Parker with a career-best eight kills to go along with three service aces.

Stetson opens ASUN Conference play on Sunday, Sept. 28, traveling to Louisville, Ky., to face Bellarmine at 1 p.m.
