JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Stetson setter
Nyah Molina has been named the ASUN Defensive Player of the Week after a standout weekend performance.
Molina opened the weekend with a historic effort, recording a 43-assist, 31-dig performance against Bethune-Cookman — the first 40-30 double-double by a Hatter in the Rally Scoring Era.
"Nyah continues to learn and lead the team in many different ways. Her defensive mindset provides a great example for the younger players to follow," said head coach
Yang Deng.
Following Stetson's 3-1 victory over Bethune-Cookman, Molina notched her ninth double-double of the season with 13 assists and 10 digs against Florida Atlantic. She closed the weekend with 33 assists and seven digs in four sets versus George Washington.
Across 11 sets, Molina totaled 89 assists, 48 digs, eight kills, and six blocks, further cementing her place in the Stetson record books.
The Hatters open ASUN Conference play on the road in Louisville, Ky., facing Bellarmine on Sunday, Sept. 28 at 1 p.m. at Knights Hall.
