Hatters Earn 4-1 Victory Over Georgia State at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center

DeLAND, Fla. — Stetson University improved to 3-1 on the season with a 4-1 victory over Georgia State (2-2) on Sunday afternoon at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center. The win marked just the second all-time triumph for the Hatters over the Panthers and was sealed behind a strong showing in both doubles and singles play.

Stetson jumped out to an early advantage by claiming the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. Xavier Sarda Marti and James Lorenzetti set the tone with a 6-3 victory at No. 2 doubles over Cem Atlamis and Aryan Jit Singh. Although Christian Kuehne and Mate Stanisavljevic were trailing 5-4 at No. 3 doubles when play was halted, Kartik Mandla and Alexandre Verlaguet clinched the point with a decisive 6-2 win against Arthur Attrill and Gabriele Datei at the top spot.

The Hatters carried that momentum into singles competition. Mihnea Maftei was first off the court, earning a convincing 6-1, 6-3 win over Gustav Andersson at No. 6 singles to extend Stetson's lead. Verlaguet followed with a composed 6-3, 6-3 victory against Datei at No. 1 singles, putting the Hatters one point away from the match.

Kuehne delivered the clincher at No. 2 singles, defeating Atlamis 6-2, 7-5 to secure the dual match. Georgia State answered with a point at No. 4 singles, where Attrill topped Stanisavljevic 6-4, 6-3.

Play was stopped on the remaining courts with matches unfinished. Sarda Marti and Sota Minami were locked in a tight battle at No. 3 singles, splitting the first two sets, while Lorenzetti and Jit Singh were even at 3-3 in the third set at No. 5 singles when action concluded.
