DELAND, Fla. — Stetson volleyball hosts Lipscomb at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, for Hatters Around the World before wrapping up the homestand against Bellarmine at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11, for Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
Scouting the Hatters
Stetson enters the weekend with a 4-10 overall record and a 0-3 mark in conference play.
Freshman
Andrea Diaz Dominguez continues to lead the Hatters offensively following an impressive start to her collegiate career. Diaz Dominguez has totaled 113 kills and 132.5 points this season while leading Stetson in kills, points and service aces. She has also recorded three double-doubles.
Jannelize Perez has anchored the Stetson defense with 184 digs while averaging 3.83 digs per set.
The Hatters have also received a strong presence at the net from freshman
Sofia Torcello and senior
Kayla Balfour. Balfour leads the team with 46 total blocks, while Torcello has recorded 35. Torcello opened her collegiate career with seven blocks against FIU and followed with another seven-block performance against Merrimack. Balfour recorded a season-high eight blocks against FIU and is averaging one block per set.
Vanessa Shevchenko and
Maia Pou have shared the setting duties throughout the season. Shevchenko has totaled 192 assists, 89 digs and 51 kills, while Pou has added 173 assists and eight service aces. Pou recorded a career-high 25 assists in Stetson's win over Alabama State earlier this season.
As a team, Stetson has recorded 493 kills through 49 sets, averaging 10.1 kills per set while hitting .161. The Hatters are also averaging 9.4 assists, 14.1 digs and 2.0 blocks per set.
Scouting the Opponents
Lipscomb
Lipscomb enters Friday's matchup with a 9-4 overall record and a 2-1 mark in conference play after earning a five-set win over North Florida before following with a four-set victory over Jacksonville.
The Bisons are led offensively by Ella Durham, who has totaled 181 kills this season, 50 more than teammate Sydney Strenger's 131. Kelsey Schenck has orchestrated the Lipscomb offense with 503 assists, averaging more than 10 assists per set.
Defensively, Grace Jones leads the Bisons with 132 digs, one more than Kenzie Kucks. Schenck has also recorded 127 digs. At the net, Strenger leads Lipscomb with 36 blocks.
As a team, Lipscomb has recorded 641 kills while hitting .223. The Bisons are averaging 13.1 kills, 12.5 assists, 15.0 digs and 1.6 blocks per set.
Bellarmine
Bellarmine enters the weekend with an 8-6 overall record and a 2-1 mark in ASUN play after splitting its matches against Jacksonville and North Florida. The Knights fell to Jacksonville in four sets before earning a 3-1 victory over North Florida.
Mady Yaden leads Bellarmine offensively with 174 kills, followed by Natalie Bland with 157. Maddie Carnes has orchestrated the offense with 529 assists this season.
Defensively, Payton Parsons leads the Knights with 212 digs, while Bland and Carnes have also surpassed 100 digs. At the net, Mary Herman holds the team lead with 54 blocks.
As a team, Bellarmine has tallied 689 kills across 56 sets while hitting .206. The Knights are averaging 12.3 kills, 11.3 assists, 14.1 digs and 1.8 blocks per set.
Series History
Friday's matchup marks the 37th all-time meeting between Stetson and Lipscomb. Sunday's showdown will be the sixth meeting between Stetson and Bellarmine, with the Hatters holding a 4-1 advantage in the all-time series.
