Sakashita, Doan Sweep ASUN Golfer of the Week Honors

DeLAND, Fla. — Stetson golf continued its impressive start to the fall season as Isaki Sakashita and Uy Doan were named Atlantic Sun Conference Women's and Men's Golfers of the Week, respectively, following standout performances that saw both programs enjoy championship success.

The honors give Stetson a sweep of the conference's weekly golf awards, with Sakashita helping lead the women's team to the Navy Fall Invite championship and Doan capturing his second consecutive individual tournament title at the West Bay Collegiate Invitational.

For Sakashita, the recognition marks her sixth career ASUN Golfer of the Week selection and first of the 2026-27 campaign. Doan earns the distinction for the second consecutive time, bringing his career total to two.

Sakashita Helps Fuel Championship Comeback

Sakashita played a leading role in Stetson women's golf's dramatic comeback at the Navy Fall Invite, finishing tied for third individually while helping the Hatters overcome a 13-shot deficit to capture the team championship in a playoff against host Navy.

The junior from Nara, Japan, carded rounds of 75 and 74 to finish the 36-hole event at 5-over 149, leading Stetson individually in both rounds.

After opening Saturday with a 3-over 75, Sakashita improved by one stroke during Sunday's final round, recording a 2-over 74 to help fuel the Hatters' charge up the leaderboard.

She began her final round with a birdie on the opening hole before adding another at No. 8, making the turn at 2-under 34. Despite encountering trouble on the back nine, Sakashita responded with a birdie at No. 17 to complete her round.

Her performance helped Stetson produce the lowest team round of the tournament, a 12-over 300, as the Hatters erased Navy's 13-shot advantage and finished regulation tied at 33-over 609.

Stetson went on to defeat the Midshipmen in a playoff, securing the championship after entering the final round in third place.

Sakashita's tie for third highlighted a strong collective showing that featured four Hatters finishing inside the top 10.

The reigning ASUN Women's Golfer of the Year adds another weekly honor to an already decorated collegiate career. She previously earned two weekly selections during her freshman campaign and three more in 2025-26, a season that also saw her capture ASUN Golfer of the Year honors and advance to NCAA Regional competition.

Doan Continues Dominant Fall With Second Straight Victory

On the men's side, Doan continued his remarkable start to the 2026-27 season by capturing his second consecutive individual championship at the West Bay Collegiate Invitational in Estero, Florida.

The Hanoi, Vietnam, native delivered three consecutive rounds in the 60s, posting scores of 68-67-68 to finish the 54-hole event at 13-under 203.

His performance secured a two-stroke victory and extended a stretch of exceptional consistency that has established him as one of the conference's top performers early in the season.

Doan opened the tournament with a 4-under 68 before producing his lowest round of the event, a 5-under 67, in the second round. He followed with another 4-under 68 to close out the championship.

The victory came just two weeks after Doan captured his first collegiate individual title at the Florida Atlantic Invitational at The Bear's Club in Jupiter, Florida.

At that event, he fired rounds of 66-68-68 to finish at 14-under 202, tying Stetson's program record for the lowest 54-hole tournament total while establishing a new school mark for the lowest score relative to par.

Through his first three tournaments of the fall, Doan owns a remarkable 68.2 scoring average, with all nine rounds at par or better. Eight of those nine rounds have been in the 60s.

His back-to-back victories have also added to the success of Stetson men's golf under head coach Danny Forshey, who has now guided seven different Hatters to 10 individual tournament championships during his six seasons in DeLand.

Doan's latest recognition marks his second career ASUN Golfer of the Week honor after receiving his first on September 24.

Hatters Continue Strong Fall Campaign

The dual recognition adds to an impressive stretch for both Stetson golf programs.

The women's team has carried its momentum from a successful 2025-26 campaign into the new season, highlighted by its championship performance in Annapolis. The Hatters entered the final round trailing Navy by 13 strokes before rallying to secure the title. The women will return to action on October 18th when they head to The Plantation Course at Edisto in South Carolina for the Edisto Island Invitational hosted by Charleston Southern.

Meanwhile, Doan has provided a strong start for the men's program, capturing individual championships in consecutive appearances while maintaining a scoring average well below 70.

Stetson men's golf will conclude its fall schedule Monday at The Bryson Invitational, hosted at Doral Resort and Spa in Miami.
