Stetson Comes Up Short at USF

TAMPA, Fla. — Stetson dropped a 5-2 decision to the University of South Florida on Wednesday at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts. The Hatters earned singles victories at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions but were unable to overcome an early deficit after falling short in doubles play.

South Florida claimed the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Josefine Falster and Charlotte Ruud defeated Pilar Astigarraga Harper and Dana Baidaulet 6-2 at No. 2 doubles, while Francesca Miglio and Melisa Senli secured a 6-3 victory over Yuki Mizuguchi and Clelia Lombardi at No. 3. The No. 1 doubles match featuring Katsiaryna Tuliakova and Anastasija Adeikyte was left unfinished.

In singles action, the Bulls extended their lead with a win at No. 6 singles, as Amelie Drukerova topped Lombardi 6-1, 6-0. Sienna Leeson followed with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Pilar Astigarraga Harper at No. 2 singles.

The final match of the day came down to a tight third-set tiebreak at No. 3 singles, where Margherita Marcon edged Baidaulet 6-2, 7-5, 10-7 to secure the overall result for South Florida.
