DORADO, Puerto Rico — Stetson University's Matthis Lefèvre fired a 4-under par 68 to move up 12 spots and into the individual lead, while another solid team performance lifted the Hatters into the top position on the team leaderboard after the second round of competition at the Dorado Beach Collegiate at TPC Dorado Beach.
Stetson improved by 11 strokes over yesterday's first round to finish the event's first 36 holes at 7-under and head into the final day with a four stroke lead over second place Southern Mississippi. Host UNC Greensboro is in third place at 1-under, followed by Elon at plus-1.
Lefèvre, a graduate transfer from the University of Arkansas, led four Stetson golfers who posted red scores in today's second round. Simon Engman and Gaspar Glaudas are tied for seventh place overall at 1-under par, while Jackson Hicks posted the biggest improvement on the team by moving up 21 spots in the standings to sit in a tie for 17th place at 1-over par. Rasmus Ronnberg and Gabriel Lindahl, who is playing as an individual, are tied for 34th at 5-over.
A large factor in the Hatters' scoring success today was improvement on the TPC Dorado Beach's back nine. Yesterday, Stetson went 7-over par on the back. Today, paced by Lefèvre's 4-under, all six Hatters carded scores of even par or better on that part of the course and collectively played it at 7-under – a 14-stroke swing.
Stetson leads the 15-team field in par 5 scoring at 14-under - a 4.65 average - and is the steadiest team in the tournament with just 26 total bogeys. Individually, Lefèvre is a tournament-best 6-under on the course's par 5 holes and owns the lead in birdies with 12.
Engman is tied for the tournament lead in pars with 31.
The field returns for the tournament's final round tomorrow with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start. Stetson will be paired with golfers from Elon, Southern Mississippi and UNC Greensboro. Live results will be available by clicking here.
