EUGENE, Ore. — Stetson closed out the Oregon Classic with a 7-2 victory over Idaho State on Sunday at Jane Sanders Stadium.
The Hatters (14-6) took advantage of three Idaho State errors and totaled six hits, including a triple and a double, while limiting the Bengals (10-10) to just three hits on the day.
Stetson set the tone early.
Annabella McClerren led off the first inning with a triple, and
Irianis Garcia followed with an RBI single to tie the game at 1-1.
The Hatters broke things open in the third inning.
Gabby David delivered a two-RBI double to left center, scoring
Jahnnie Patterson and
Amber Chumley to extend the lead to 5-2. The hit marked David's first multi-hit performance of the season. Later in the inning,
Avery Terpsma reached on an error, allowing David to score and stretch the advantage.
Stetson added insurance in the fourth, capitalizing on Idaho State miscues. Chumley was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in a run, and
Nadia English followed with a productive ground out to plate another. Idaho State's lone extra-base damage came on a solo home run in the third, but the Hatters maintained control throughout.
In the circle,
Ava Braswell earned the win, tossing four innings while allowing three hits and two earned runs. She struck out three and walked three.
Kennedy Temples was dominant in relief, throwing two scoreless innings without allowing a hit or walk and striking out one to secure the victory.
