CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Stetson battled early but could not keep pace with North Carolina, falling 12-4 on Wednesday evening at Anderson Stadium.
Stetson struck first in the opening inning.
Annabella McClerren doubled and later scored on an RBI single from
Nicole Edmiaston to give the Hatters an early spark. In the second,
Irianis Garcia delivered an RBI single to help keep the contest tight.
The Hatters continued to apply pressure in the third inning, plating two more runs to trim the deficit to 6-4. However, North Carolina responded with a three-run fifth inning to extend the lead to 9-4. A three-run homer in the sixth provided further separation, putting the game out of reach.
Despite the final score, Stetson generated consistent traffic on the bases but was unable to deliver the timely hit needed to close the gap, leaving multiple runners stranded in scoring position.
In the circle,
Ava Braswell took the loss after allowing five runs in 1 1/3 innings of work.
Kennedy Temples provided 3 innings in relief, surrendering three earned runs, and
Hayley Arnold followed with an inning of action.
