DeLand, Fla. — Stetson men's basketball begins its run in the ASUN Championship on Wednesday, Mar. 4, facing No. 7 seed Eastern Kentucky at UNF Arena at 5:00 p.m.
Stetson closed the regular season with an 11–20 overall record and a 7–11 mark in ASUN play. Collin Kuhl finished the year strong, scoring a career-high 31 points against FGCU. He recorded eight double-doubles this season and averaged 13.2 points and 6.4 rebounds per game while shooting a conference-best 65.7 percent from the field — ranking fifth nationally. Kuhl also added 21 assists, seven blocks, and 26 steals on the year.
Ethan Copeland provided a steady offensive presence, averaging 14.5 points per game while shooting 42.2 percent from three-point range and leading the team with 46 steals. Copeland scored in double figures in more than 20 games this season, including seven 20-point performances. Most recently, he posted 22 points against FGCU, shooting 9-for-14 from the field and 4-for-7 from beyond the arc. Nationally, Copeland ranks 14th in total three-point field goals made, 22nd in three-pointers per game, 23rd in three-point percentage, and 31st in total three-point attempts.
Calvin Sirmans III continues to orchestrate the offense, leading the Hatters with 145 assists — good for third in the ASUN. He also recorded two double-doubles this season, including an 11-point, 11-assist performance against Central Arkansas. As a team, Stetson is averaging 73.5 points per game while shooting 45 percent from the field, 36 percent from three-point range, and 68 percent from the free-throw line.
Eastern Kentucky enters the ASUN Championship as the No. 7 seed with an 11–20 overall record and a 7–11 mark in conference play. Juan Cranford Jr. leads the Colonels in scoring at 12.3 points per game. Montavious Myrick (11.9 ppg), MJ Williams (10.1 ppg), and Turner Buttrey (10.0 ppg) round out the double-digit scorers. Myrick leads the team in rebounding at 7.0 boards per game and has added 22 blocks and 26 steals. Williams paces the Colonels with 128 assists and 47 steals. As a unit, Eastern Kentucky averages 80 points per game while shooting 44 percent from the field, 35 percent from three-point range, and 72.5 percent from the free-throw line.
Wednesday's matchup marks the seventh all-time meeting between Stetson and Eastern Kentucky. The Colonels claimed a 100–88 victory in the regular-season meeting earlier this year.
