Hatters Sweep Queens in Doubleheader Thriller, Break Home Run Record

DeLAND, Fla. — Stetson swept Saturday's doubleheader against Queens, earning a 5–1 victory in the opener before holding off a late rally for a 9–8 win in game two at Patricia Wilson Field. The Hatters improve to 21-14 overall and 6-2 in ASUN play.

Game 1
Stetson used a strong middle innings surge and a dominant pitching performance from Hayley Arnold to secure a 5–1 win.

Queens struck first in the third on a sacrifice fly, but the Hatters answered in the bottom half. Annabella McClerren reached and came around to score on Amber Chumley's single to center, tying the game at 1–1.

Nicole Edmiaston launched a two-run homer to right—her 15th of the season—tying her for third in program history for a single season to give the Hatters the lead in the fifth. Later in the inning, Gaby Bauer added a two-RBI single to extend the lead to 5–1.

Arnold was outstanding in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing just one run on three hits. She struck out seven and kept Queens off the board over the final four innings to secure the win.

Game 2
The Hatters completed the sweep with a 9–8 victory, using a five-run fifth inning to build a cushion that proved just enough.

Queens jumped ahead early with a two-run home run in the first, but Irianis Garcia answered with a solo shot to cut the deficit in half. Stetson tied the game in the second when Gabby David scored on a wild pitch.

Garcia struck again in the third with her second solo home run of the game to give Stetson the lead, and David followed with an RBI double to make it 4–2.

The Hatters broke things open in the fifth. McClerren doubled and later scored on a Chumley single before David drove in two runs with a base hit. Logan Forman capped the inning with a two-run home run as Stetson extended its lead to 9–2. The three home runs in the inning also pushed the Hatters to a new single-season program record.

Queens mounted a late comeback, scoring four runs in the sixth and adding two more in the seventh, but Stetson held on to secure the 9–8 win.

Ava Braswell earned the win with five innings of work, allowing two runs on five hits. Caitlyn Kulczyski and Kennedy Temples combined in relief to close out the game.
