Hatters Rally from Four Down to Secure Series Sweep

DeLAND, Fla. — Stetson (29-18) secured a 7–6 comeback victory over West Georgia (13-35) at Patricia Wilson Field, after punching their ticket to the ASUN Championship the night prior. The Hatters used a decisive six-run fifth inning to erase a four-run deficit and complete the season series sweep.

West Georgia jumped out to an early lead in the third inning, scoring four runs on a two-run home run, an RBI double, and an RBI single to take a 4–0 advantage.

Stetson responded in the fifth, batting around and erupting for six runs. Berkley Demetter, pinch running for Gabby David, scored from second on a two-RBI double by Gaby Bauer to spark the rally. Mason Barclay followed with an RBI double, while Irianis Garcia and Amber Chumley each added RBI singles. Nadia English capped the inning with an RBI knock, giving the Hatters a 6–4 lead.

Both teams added a run in the sixth. West Georgia capitalized on a throwing error, while Nicole Edmiaston answered with an RBI single to extend Stetson's lead to 7–5.

West Georgia made things interesting in the seventh with an RBI single, but the Hatters held on to secure the 7–6 victory.

Kennedy Temples got the start, while Ava Braswell provided a key relief effort with 2.1 scoreless innings to earn the win. Hayley Arnold closed the door, tossing two innings to pick up the save.

Stetson Top Performers Head Coach Shellie Cousins emphasized the significance of the moment following the game.

"Clinching this early is huge for us," Cousins said. "This is the earliest we've clinched since I've been here, so that's a big confidence booster. We came out a little flat early, but the team understands the weight of every game. They stayed confident and found a way to get it done."

Looking ahead, Cousins highlighted the importance of staying focused down the stretch.

"It's about being intentional in practice," Cousins said. "Everything we do has to have a purpose as we prepare for what's next."

Stetson returns to action Saturday, April 25, traveling to face Jacksonville at 2:00 p.m.
