Hatters Clinch Series Win with 17-11 Slugfest at West Georgia

CARROLLTON, Ga. — Stetson's offense stayed scorching hot Saturday afternoon, piling up 19 hits and scoring in seven different innings as the Hatters outslugged the West Georgia Wolves 17-11 at Cole Field to secure an ASUN series victory.

After rallying for a dramatic comeback win Friday night, Stetson (17-25, 8-11 ASUN) followed it up with another offensive explosion, totaling 30 runs over the first two games of the series.

The Hatters struck early and often, but this one was anything but easy. In a back-and-forth contest that featured multiple lead changes and a 9-9 deadlock through four innings, Stetson used a relentless offensive attack and key bullpen work to take control.

Stetson grabbed the lead for good in the fifth inning when Samuel Fernandez lifted a go-ahead sacrifice fly to make it 10-9, part of a stretch where the Hatters kept applying pressure inning after inning.

The offense added insurance in the sixth and seventh before breaking the game open with a four-run eighth inning. By day's end, Stetson had produced 17 runs, swiped six bases and had every starter reach base safely.

Yohann Dessureault paced the offensive outburst with a career day, collecting four hits, including a double, while driving in four runs. Anthony Gonzalez delivered one of the biggest blows of the afternoon, going 2-for-6 with a home run, double and five RBIs. Foster Apple added three hits and three RBIs, while six Hatters recorded multi-hit performances.

Stetson's speed also created havoc all afternoon, led by Juan De La Cruz's two stolen bases as the Hatters swiped six bags as a team.

On the mound, Jake Gorelick earned the win in relief, working two innings while allowing two runs. Brayden Toro helped slam the door late with two scoreless innings of relief.

The victory secures Stetson's second ASUN series win of the season and gives the Hatters a chance at a road sweep Sunday.
