Hatters Earn Silver Medal, Strong Finishes at Dad Vail Regatta

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. — The Stetson University men's rowing team closed out its 2026 spring campaign with a strong showing at the 2026 Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta on the Cooper River, highlighted by a silver medal finish in the Men's Second Varsity 4+ Grand Final.

Competing in one of the nation's premier collegiate rowing events, the Hatters faced programs from across the country throughout the two-day regatta and produced several standout performances across multiple boat classes.

Stetson's best finish came in the Men's Second Varsity 4+ Grand Final, where the Hatters placed second with a time of 6:50.020, finishing just behind Drexel and ahead of Mercyhurst, Colgate and La Salle.

"This has been the most fun I've ever had racing," Chris Furton said. "Our boat went out and had a great time every race, and took home a silver medal. This was the perfect way to send out my rowing career and I couldn't be more grateful. JV vibes!"

The Varsity 8 also turned in a strong weekend performance. After advancing through earlier rounds, the Hatters placed second in Final 3 with a time of 5:54.750, finishing behind Hobart while defeating Embry-Riddle, Mercyhurst, Florida Tech, Fairfield and Iona.

"I'm really proud of all the work we put in this year and even though we didn't get the result we expected, we had a phenomenal final race," Lukasz said. "This team gets faster every year, and we'll be coming back stronger."

The freshman class also made a strong impression at the regatta. Stetson's Frosh/Novice 4+ advanced to the Grand Final after placing third in the semifinal round and ultimately finished sixth in the Lindy Cup Grand Final with a time of 7:20.800.

"This regatta was a great showing of all the work the freshman class has put in this year," Ethan Manning said. "We were able to clinch a spot in the A Final, put out good efforts, and ended the season strong. Looking forward to the future progress this class will make and the speed the team will see next year."

Stetson's JV4+ crew earned a victory in its semifinal race with a time of 6:53.140 before taking silver in the Grand Final, while the Men's Varsity 2- competed in semifinal action against a competitive field featuring Queen's, Mercyhurst and Pittsburgh.
