DeLAND, Fla. – Stetson baseball head coach Shane Gierke announced the addition of Brandon Brewer to his coaching staff, bringing the former Hatter assistant back to DeLand following five seasons at the University of Miami.
Brewer returns to Stetson after previously spending four seasons with the Hatters from 2017-21, working with the program's infielders and hitters. During his first stint in DeLand, Brewer was part of one of the most successful stretches in program history, highlighted by Stetson's run to the 2018 NCAA Super Regionals.
"Brandon is the right guy at the right time for Stetson Baseball," said Gierke. "He is a talented coach with a wealth of experience at a high level, and we're excited to welcome his wife, Taylor, and son, Bolt, back to DeLand."
Brewer spent the past five seasons at Miami after joining the Hurricanes' staff prior to the 2022 season. In Coral Gables, he served as an assistant coach working with Miami's infielders and hitters.
"I'm incredibly excited for the opportunity to return to Stetson and be part of this program again," said Brewer. "Stetson is a special place to me and my family, and I have a tremendous amount of respect for Shane and the vision he has for this program. I'm grateful for the opportunity to come back to DeLand, work with our student-athletes and help continue the tradition of Stetson Baseball."
Before departing for Miami, Brewer helped oversee a strong defensive unit at Stetson. The Hatters posted the second-best fielding percentage in the ASUN in 2021 after leading the conference in fielding percentage during Brewer's first season with the program.
Brewer's return also reunites him with Gierke, continuing a relationship that dates back to their time at the University of West Florida. Gierke recruited and coached Brewer during his playing career with the Argonauts, including the program's run to the 2011 NCAA Division II National Championship.
A native of Apopka, Florida, Brewer enjoyed a decorated playing career at West Florida. He batted .390 as a senior in 2011 while starting all 61 games at shortstop and helping lead the Argonauts to the national championship. Brewer scored 55 runs, drove in 36 and stole 20 bases during the championship season.
He earned All-Region recognition from the D2CCA, ABCA and NCBWA in 2011 and was named a Second Team All-American by the NCBWA and Daktronics. Brewer was also a two-time Rawlings Gold Glove Award recipient in 2009 and 2011.
Over four seasons at West Florida, Brewer hit .316 while starting 224 of 225 games. He totaled 179 runs, 122 RBI and 58 stolen bases and finished his career ranked among the program's top 10 in hits, runs, RBI, total bases, stolen bases, walks and assists.
Following his collegiate career, Brewer was selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the 36th round of the 2011 MLB Draft and spent two seasons in the Angels' minor league system.
