Mills Finds the Net as Hatters Finish Texas Trip with Draw

EDINBURG, Texas — Stetson men's soccer closed out its season-opening trip through Texas with a 1-1 draw against UTRGV on Sunday morning at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.

The Hatters found themselves trailing in the second half but responded to level the match and earn their first draw of the 2026 season.

William Mills provided the equalizer, scoring the first goal of his collegiate career on his lone shot of the match. The redshirt junior made the most of his opportunity, putting his only attempt on frame and into the back of the net.

Matthew McCall went the full 90 minutes in goal for Stetson and finished with four saves while facing 10 UTRGV shots. Daniele Mastroianni and Matthew Perez each recorded two shots for the Hatters, with both placing one attempt on goal.

The result moves Stetson to 0-1-1 on the season following its two-match Texas swing, which opened Thursday night at No. 15 SMU.

The Hatters now return to DeLand for their 2026 home opener on Wednesday, Aug. 26, when Webber International visits the Athletic Training Center. The match will also serve as Senior Recognition Night, with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m.
