Hatters Fall to Troy on the Road

TROY, Ala. — Stetson (0-3-0) fell 2-0 to Troy (1-2-0) on Sunday at the Troy Soccer Complex. The Hatters created 10 scoring opportunities, including three shots on goal, while continuing to show offensive pressure throughout the match.

Stetson came out attacking early, with Julianna Liguori recording a shot in the 12th minute before Hailey Shelly added another attempt in the 18th minute. The Hatters continued to create opportunities as the opening half progressed, looking to break through against the Trojans.

Troy took a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute, but Stetson responded with increased pressure before halftime. Shelly and Payton Quinones each put shots on goal late in the opening half, forcing saves from Troy goalkeeper Taylor Richards. The Hatters entered the break looking to build on their attacking opportunities.

Troy added a second goal in the 52nd minute, but the Hatters continued to push forward. Stetson created several more chances throughout the second half, with Liguori, Eva McCoy and Victoria Wunderlich all recording shots. Liguori led the Hatters with three shots, while Shelly, Quinones and McCoy each put a shot on goal.

Despite generating opportunities throughout the match, Stetson was unable to find the back of the net as the Hatters fell 2-0.

The Hatters return home Sunday, Aug. 30, when they host South Florida at 6:00 p.m. ET at the Athletic Training Center in DeLand, Florida.
